Delete one child

In the app, open Parents from the main screen, pass the grown-ups' gate, and go to Children. Choose the child and tap the bin, Delete.

This removes that child's nickname, levels, pearls, stickers and statistics. If the family uses Sync, it removes them from the account too, and from every other device signed in to the same account. The last remaining child cannot be deleted — add another first, or delete all the data at once as below.

Delete all data

In the app, open Parents → Danger zone and choose Delete all data. The grown-ups' gate asks again, and the app asks you to confirm.

This deletes every child on the device, with their nickname, PIN, avatar, levels, pearls, stickers and statistics, and resets the device settings. 8ctoMath then starts again as if it had just been installed, with a new random label.

If you are signed in for Sync, the children are deleted from the account as well, and so from every other device that syncs with it, and this device signs out. The account itself stays, with no children in it: sign in again whenever you like, or delete it as below. A purchase of 8ctoMath+ stays too: it belongs to your Google Play account, not to the app's data, and it stays attached to the Sync account.

Uninstall

Uninstalling 8ctoMath deletes everything on the device too. The app keeps its files in its own private storage, which Android removes together with the app.

Delete the Sync account

Only relevant if you signed in for Sync; without an account there is nothing stored off the device. In the app, open Parents → Danger zone and choose Delete account. The grown-ups' gate asks again, and you confirm with your password or your Google account.

This deletes the account and everything stored with it, for good and without a recovery period, and everything on the device you are holding, exactly as Delete all data does. Other devices that were signed in to the account keep the children they hold, on that device only; delete them there with Delete all data, or uninstall. An 8ctoMath+ purchase attached to the account is let go: it stays yours on Google Play, and the next account you sign in to with it can take it.

Ask us to delete it

If you cannot reach the app — a lost or broken device, for instance — email hi@8cto.net from the address the account was created with, saying that you would like the account and its data deleted. We will confirm and delete it within 30 days, and normally within a few working days.

Because we hold nothing that identifies a person beyond that account email address, this is the only kind of request we are able to act on. If you never created an account, there is nothing on our side to delete.

What is kept, and for how long

• On the device: until you delete the child, delete all data, or uninstall the app.
• In a Sync account: until you delete the child, delete all data while signed in, or delete the account. A deleted child leaves a small marker so that other devices on the account know to remove them too; it holds no name or progress. Deleting the account removes the markers as well.
• 8ctoMath+ attached to an account: a one-way fingerprint of the purchase, with the account, until the account is deleted or Google Play reports the purchase as refunded, which our server checks once a day. How often an account asked to attach a purchase is counted for an hour at a time and then removed.
• Server logs: Google keeps the ordinary request logs of the Firebase services behind Sync, including the lines our purchase check writes (the account and the purchase fingerprint, never the purchase itself) for the usual 30 days, and GitHub keeps the request logs of this website. Both are outside our control and are described in the privacy policy.

We keep no backups of our own, no analytics store and no mailing list, so there is nowhere else for a copy to sit.
